First had: on tap at French Broad
Murky brown pour with a thin white ringlet. Aroma of toffee and vanilla. Not much else, but it was pretty good. Taste was similar, toffee, vanilla, caramel apple, some earthiness, but otherwise not much in the hop department here, understandably. Mouthfeel was smooth and creamy, but the body was a little on the light side. Alcohol was present, but didn't seem as strong as 11%. A pretty tasty barleywine overall, and definitely the best beer I sampled at French Broad.
