Tasted at "Super Kegs" at The Diamond in Greenpoint, Brooklyn
"Toasted ale" sweetened with honey (marketed as a biere de garde). Brewer roasts his own malt.
Nose has roasty carob/chicory (not quite coffee/chocolate). Dark-roasted nutty.
Very harmonious and unified. Hard to analyze the components...which is the ultimate compliment. Honey is obviously characterful and funky, but they added just the right amount so it doesn't stick out.
Surprisingly sessiony, given the strength and weirdness
I kept thinking I tasted weizen yeast (bubble gum/clovey) but that may be the honey.
