Thanks to Rado for sharing this one at Oneinchaway's tasting.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, earth, and slight smoke aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, char, and smoke flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and smoke bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with nice smoke qualities all around, but I am not getting any wine barrel aged characteristics whatsoever.
Serving type: bottle.
