Served in a snifter at the brewery.
A- Oatmeal head, frothy and thick. Heavy lacing. Pitch-black body. 5
S- Floral with a good dose of cocoa. A bit one dimensional for me and nothing particularly Belgian. 3.5
T- Here we go. Now it's Belgian. Peppery and floral yeast with a burst of dark fruit (plum especially) and a continued cocoa presence. As it warms, a chocolate-covered raisin flavor develops and damn is it good. Some lingering coffee appears too. 4.25
M- Lightly sweet and creamy up front with an assertive yeast feel imparting some bite. Mid-palate comes a fluffy fullness that gives way to a dryer, bitter exit. 4.25
This beer tastes a bit like Malpais, with the dry, roasted malt, bitterness and the like. It seems they gave it a Belgian twist with pretty splendid results. Awesome.
