they call this a winter warmer, but to me it sort of tastes like a spiced dark hefeweizen. its medium amber in color under a lively white head. aromas of overdeveloped german hefe type yeast and even an estery french saison strain, i get white wine and banana and cloves, its autumnal in an interesting way, mulling spices and raisin and cherry juice elements, hardly wheaty in the nose. the flavor has a little more of the caramelized grain, darker wheat maybe here, and a whole lot of interesting yeast elements, cooked banana and allspice and cinnamon and ginger and orange, its increasingly wintery and estery as it warms too, but its also not super heavy or sweet like i usually associate with winter warmers, perhaps you dont need such a strong and intense beer to take the harsh out of winter in new mexico! smooth in feel, copper and dried fruit in the finish, light carbonation. something a little different from these guys, maybe overly yeasty for some, but i enjoyed this in the context of winter in the desert.
