Collaboration with Modern Times and Pizza Port.

It’s no secret that when it comes to big brash Double IPAs, San Diego brewers wrote the book. So why not invite two of the greatest San Diego hop masters, Modern Times and Pizza Port out to brew this very intense, very West Coast DIPA with us? Featuring Sabro among a plethora of PNW hops, be prepared for an absolute onslaught of resinous, dank hop ridiculousness.

Draft at La Cumbre. Medium amber pour, clear, small persistent head. Nice hoppy dank aroma. Taste, as expected, also falls squarely on the hops, big and bold and bracing.

Picked up a single from the Craft Beer Hop Stop cooler 3-3-20 for $4.49. Canned on 1-22-20; best by 4-21-20; consumed 5-8-20. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured golden with a very nice long lasting white head that is leaving some lacing behind.

Nose is nice, grapefruit forward with some orange rind.

Taste is old school WCIPA, big biscuit malt base is greeted by an all out assault of alpha acid hops that impart grapefruit and orange. Finishes with a very abrasive finish; 10/10 on my bitterness scale.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth.

Overall wowzah, i have not seen a beer this aggressively hopped in a long time but i do appreciate what the brewers are doing here as this was a good throwback!

16 oz. Can
CO: 01/22/20
BB: 04/21/20

Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice slightly hazy golden orangey color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, mango), pretty nice piney. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, mango), pretty nice pineyness, nice little sweetness. Medium body, ABV is hidden pretty nicely, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew. Glad to see it around here.

A: Yellow gold with rich white foamy head and abundant lacing.
N: Grapefruit, pine, citrus and some biscuit.
T: Follows the nose, solid pine/grapefruit hit with some citrus and grassy flavors. A little sweet biscuit mixed in.
M: Medium with a decent bite but balanced.
O: A well made beer and enjoyable to drink.

Whooo! Three-wayyy!! La Cumbre, New Mexican craft beer geniuses team up with the great Southern Cali brewing co's: Pizza Port and Modern Times.

And, we're lucky enough that it turns out to be a classic West Coast style IIPA, sporting over 100 IBU's, ye-haw!!

Straw yellow body with a bone white head, this brew pours beautifully, and has a suave can art to match. I'd say this beer has a real look. Five out of five!

Smells tasty too! I get notes of lemongrass, mango, passionfruit, pineapple, orange, rosemary, thyme, sassafras, white peach, juniper and pine. Dank as all hell.

Tasty as all hell, too! The pineapple, peach, and mango really come across on the palate. Citrusy and herbal bitterness follow suit, with that warming sassafras presence at the finish. Delicious!

Medium-full bodied and perfectly crisp on the finish, just how I like.

Mmm. Solid A. Great collab. Much deliciousness. Cheers!

16oz can poured in to a nonic glass.
Canned on 01/22/20. Poured in to a pint glass.

Look- Clear golden straw color, modest slightly off-white head that recedes fairly quickly to a thin cap, moderate lacing. Solid carbonation streaming as it sits.

Smell- Citrus (pithy grapefruit and lemon), resinous pine, pineapple and melon, bready malts. Mild pepper and light spicy/floral notes.

Taste- Mostly citrus and pine, white pepper, earthy hops and bready malts.

Feel- Medium/light bodied, very smooth with a dry, aggressively bitter finish, fairly well balanced. Moderate carbonation on the tongue.

O- A nice old school west coast style IPA, drinks like a session style IPA despite the higher ABV.

Canned 1 month ago.

Pours clear gold with a finger of fluffy white head.

The nose is candied melon when I first crack the can, which quickly settles into earthy dankness, pine, and lemon rind.

The taste is orange, lemon, pine, and firm bitterness.

The mouthfeel opens medium and finishes dry.

Overall, good. Bitter old-school hops.

cool collaboration with modern times and pizza port, i thought this was really very good, and was pleased to encounter it on tap. i rarely find myself going for the imperial ipa types anymore, and at over 9% abv, i have to confess i was a tad intimidated by this, the fear of immediate drunkenness almost overtaking my curiosity about the beer, thankfully i didnt let it keep me away. this is very light in color and not particularly big looking, more yellow than golden even, mostly clear, and sports a tall and airy bone white head, really appealing beer, kind of what ipa used to be like back in the day. the aroma and the flavor are almost identical, super fresh, and not exactly all the way familiar on the hop side, even though i suspect some mosaic and simcoe in the mix, its got that kind of profile to it, but that cant be all either. lemongrass, sweet orange, fresh pine, summery cut grass, and even juniper to me, a touch oily and sweet but not heavy at all, and not sticky and lingering on the palate, even as it sits. more tropical as it warms, mango and even passion fruit, quite pungent overall on the hops, and i love the bitterness this has, still light on the grain side but the hops are powerful, reminds me of good ipa before everyone started making the hazy and raw and dry hopped a dozen times. drinkable as anything, crazy for its strength, but this doesnt seem alcoholic at all. a really fun collaboration and a great ipa, seems devoid of frills and distractions and just tastes like awesome hops. highly refined and delicious, bravo!

16 oz can, canned on 1/22/20. Pours slightly hazy dark yellow with a medium creamy white head that retains fairly well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is dank resiny hops that are a bit sulphuric with a little fruit.

The flavor is sweet bready malt with fruit and big dank and resiny hops that are a bit ashy. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a decent west coast DIPA. It's a bit too dank and ashy for me.

Crystal clear, golden body; nice frothy white head, lasting. Faint smell overall; spicy and peppery. Excellent taste for the style; tons of hop bitterness; spicy and peppery like the smell but cranked up in intensity; the finish brings out some nice biscuit-like malt notes. Medium-heavy body; crisp; lots of alcohol warmth (but balanced).

This is an incredibly tasty double IPA, following along the lines of an old-school West Coast iteration. The taste of alcohol is well-hidden with the malt base and intense hop presence. Highly recommended if you want to experience the classic tongue-ripper hop presence of IPAs of yore...

Old school DIPA, West Coast for sure. Just could use more balance. Everybody's great hops in here, i'm sure its over the meter in IBU. On tap at La Cumbre.
