The fact they call this a kolsch astounds me but I guess I'm just a newb so what do I know. That being said this tasted more like a lager and is not crisp, it's only tasting more kolsch like after finding out that's what they wanted it to be. It absolutely doesn't taste bad I just would never pick this if I was looking for a branded kolsch. Could be colder but the crispness just isn't there for me. Maybe I'll rerate another time in case outside factors are affecting anything. Already rerated, definitely an interesting kolsch if anything.

Picked up a single from the Kings Beer & Wine cooler 7-22-20 for $2.99. No canning date, cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured gold with a pretty good head with the initial pour.

Nose is sweet with a touch of white bread.

Taste follows the nose with a touch of sweetness and some bread that is balanced out nicely with the hop addition leading to a satisfying thirst quench.

Mouthfeel is light bodied and refreshing.

Overall a pretty good representation of the style.

First American Kölsch that actually tastes like an authentic Kölsch. Crisp, sparkling, and slightly fruity. Feel is soft and delicate. Hops taste like a German variety and accentuate the flavor and provide a balance to the malt - very little bitterness but you definitely tase the hops. A perfectly balanced ale.

16oz can stamped CD 06/01/20 BB 08/30/20 poured into a super stange glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on can. The beer pours bright light gold in color with nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. There is a fairly complete lacing around the glass. The aroma is mild with pale malt and stone fruit. The taste is sharp with floral & grassy notes, mineral, pale malt and a moderately bitter finish. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, good. A refreshing and earnest attempt at an authentic kolsch. Thanks @beergoot!

Clear gold color. Small white head that leaves a little bit of lace.
Sweet malt aroma, along with some floral hops.
Saltine crackers, biscuit taste. Finishes a little peppery.
Crisp and thirst-quenching.
Very nice beer.

16 oz. Can
CO 06/01/20
BB 08/30/20

Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice clean/clear golden yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger off-white head, which leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice grassy/wheaty note, lemon, peppery. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice grassy/wheaty note, lemon, peppery. Medium body, ABV hidden pretty nicely, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew. A nice thirst quencher.

L - Lovely transparent Kolsch, a little less unfiltered than classic versions, but damn it's clear for miles, Captain! Great bubbles, decent head, minimal lacing.
S - Bread. Cracker. Saltine, malt malt malt, and a light citric veil of hops await on the nose.
T - Fantastic full palate impact, not quite a Dovetail mind you, but for 4.8%? Stunningly tasty for this weight. Graceful, almost weightless at times.
F - Great mouthfeel, carbonation stays lively for 30-35 minutes, no complaints for the style here. A real Kolsch in the mouth.
O - A fantastic effort at a classic style by Cumbre, well done!

16 fl oz pull-tab can canned 06/01/20:

Filtered blonde body.

Crisp and clean drinking with a highly refreshing mouthfeel. Balanced and enjoyable with an appropriately restrained hop profile. Hop flavour is grassy and mild.

Smooth, perfectly carbonated, wet, approachable.

It's a very drinkable Kolsch that unlike most American attempts at the style is neither overhopped nor seems to cheat in terms of yeast.

Clear, pale golden yellow body; carbonation bubbles dance about; dense and sculpted white head. Sweet and herbal aroma; freshly cut green grass; some lemony citrus notes; musk melon. Outstandingly mild biscuit malt base; fine mineral-like edge to things; bread crust; peppery hop bitterness, long and lingering. Light body, hovering near medium; crisp and fairly dry overall.

This beer was a crap-shoot if only because the can label didn't say anything about the beer style other than "Ale". Ah, but what a pleasant surprise! The beer is well-crafted and appealing to the senses. I don't know if this only will be a one-off from La Cumbre or become part of their regular rotation. It sure makes for a refreshing warm weather beer.
