From the brewery:

"This is not a clone brew. I repeat, this is not a clone brew. What I was trying to do was pay homage to one of America’s truly great Pale Ales, and certainly one of my personal favorites. This med. bodied session pale ale is ripe with both American and European hops. Without any dry hop, you can get a very good idea of what those late kettle additions can do for a beer. This is about as drinkable as hoppy pale ale gets."

My review:

They clarify that this is “not a clone but an homage” to the Pale 31—and in many ways this beer is remarkable enough to stand out on its own. What better way to pay respect to a great beer than by producing another great beer?

This pours a pale tan color. The aroma is light, hoppy, grassy and crisp. Underneath it lies a burst of flavor. Tastes crisp, and intensely grassy, with a piney, sticky finish.

Wonderful and green, this has a fantastic bitterness with a light maltiness rounding it out.
