Hawthorn Australian IPA is our local take on this celebrated international style. Made from five locally grown malts and four Tasmanian hops, this beer is all Aussie!
Crystal and Munich malts give our IPA its deep golden colour, and a copious amount of late kettle hops guarantees plenty of bitterness, with passionfruit, melon and stone fruit characters on the palate. All four hops are also dry hopped in the fermenter to produce a similarly striking aroma.
Hawthorn IPA is unfiltered and unpasteurised! A big beer at 5.8% with a bold amount of flavour, try matching with strong dishes like curry; or alternatively enjoy on its own.

Hazy golden amber with good white head. Nice aroma of passion fruit and pine. Medium body with good carbonation. Fruity hoppy flavours dominate over quite a sweet light malty base. Pleasant easy drinking IPA.

I had a 330ml bottle purchased from Beer Cartel. I rousted the bottle to pour it cloudy. This beer won a Silver medal at the 2014 CBIA Craft Beer Awards. Mine was also 5.8% ABV.
Appearance: pours a good honey, amber colour with some cloudiness from residual yeast. Good 2cm head that settled to smaller head but remained to the end which was good.
Flavour: great tropical fruits on the palate and good strident bitterness on the finish. Mild carbonation. Good drinking.
Aroma: excellent. Lifted tropical fruits like passionfruit and citrus that follow through well on the palate.
Overall: I liked it, good Aussie IPA example. Great flavour, good bitterness but not overwhelming, great appearance as well. Very enjoyable. Update: just had another one of these with some fruit cheese and crackers. What a match, highly recommend that combination. And another, still very good. Aroma is top quality and fresh.

time for a locally made IPA...
a - pours of 2cm thick head, hazy orange/brown with slightly frothy lacing
s - moderate mango and passionfruit aroma with a bit of malt
t - interesting battle between hoppy bitterness vs spicy tropical fruit tinge, the bitterness lasts longer. slight smoked malt taste in there as well. crisp IPA
m - lively carbonation, medium body, dry finish.
a nice surprise, i enjoyed the crisp bitterness and the slight tropical taste, will have again!

Cloudy golden colour with a big fluffy white head. Great head retention. Nice.
Masses of mango and passion fruit. Touches of mint. Lightly honeyed. Nice. Sharp bitterness covering passion fruit and tropical notes. Bitterness is a touch harsh - like Galaxy.
Moderate body with moderately high carbonation.
A crisp IPA that works well for Australian climates. Bitterness is too high given galaxy hops but its quite nice.

The pint arrived dark golden with orange hues--more toward the yellow end of the spectrum than most IPAs in the States. The cap of foam is slightly off-white and of adequate size. Aroma is strongly hopped with grapefruit, tropical fruit, and a mixture of offish pine and grapefruit. This trend continues on the palate. The mixture of hops produces something that is less than appetizing. The unripe grapefruit is too strong and there isn't much malt for balancing. It takes more than a heavy hand of hops to make a great IPA.

appearance - Nice clear amber colour with a decent size head. Carbonation maintained fairly well with a solid amount of lacing.
smell - A pleasent light grapefruit/mango aroma. Nothing too strong or intrusive.
taste - Strong bitterness, Not much hop flavour coming through with the exception of some slight fruitiness.
mouthfeel - Very nice mouthfeel. The bitterness lingers for a while and the subtle fruit taste develops stronger with time.
overall - Not a bad IPA, definitely not the best I've tasted but in saying that, it's still a solid enjoyable beer.

Believe my bottle was 5.8%
Pours a clarified golden yellow with nice head/lacing.
Nose is big mango, pine, harsh Australian bush plants. Lots of mango. Very nice.
Taste and mouthfeel are crisp and a little watery- not too bitter or resiny but carry good hop flavour.
Nice IPA, a cross between the harsh hopping of an IPA and a more drinkable beer.

Pours deep amber with a fading head.
Nose shows some tropical fruit, fruit confectionery, soft resinous hoppy notes and lots of sweet-smelling malt. Damn enticing!
Pretty similar flavours, but not so much malt, although there’s pleasant bready notes. A fair bit of fruit again and some confectionery hints. Very easy-drinking.
Could use just a little bit more carbonation.
Great effort from these guys, showcases the hops perfectly and remains ridiculously drinkable at the same time.
