shimsham is a maple beer thats closer to me to a brown ale than to a porter or stout as its listed here, but easily the best use of maple i have seen outside of vermont. its just a bit see through brown, with a short lived white head. many beers up at pateros creek look a bit under carbonated. the nose on it is sweet dark amber malt and wonderful fresh real maple syrup. its not too much, but it contributes at least as much as the malt to both the aroma and the flavor of this beer. just enough roast on the front end to balance the malty sweetness, and the maple takes over the entire second half of the beer, with only a little darker grain to balance it off. its like a muffin i need to bake here before long. true maple character, woody and sappy, a different type of sweet, but the finish is cleaner. its really great, i could drink pint after pint of this, and its another beer i really wish these guys would find a way to can and get down here to denver. ive said this before, but pateros creek may be the unsung up and comer here, they are doing some really unique and well executed beers. this could be their best.
