Poured from a 16 oz can
Look: Copper/Amber translucent. Slightly hazy. Thin head, minimal lacing. Pretty average looking.
Smell: Mostly malt. Dark sweetness comes through with toasty malt. Aromatics from hops take a back seat. Very pleasant. Becomes very malty as it warms.
Taste: Bitterness from the hops strike a balance with the predominant malt, but malt prevails shortly thereafter. Sweetness is subdued by the bitterness, but a toasty characteristic reminiscent of a good porter comes through loud and clear. The characteristic modern IPA dry-hop ass-kick isn't present in this brew. Hop aromatics are there, but don't take center stage. Just the right amount of hop bitterness though. Some phenols are present - at least I detect a hint of bubblegum. Overall, a complex yet balanced flavor.
Feel: Medium body. Good dose of carbonation. Smooth.
Overall: I love it. I will drink it again. I really enjoy the fact that this brew is more down to earth than its IPA contemporaries. Don't get me wrong, this is not a simple beer and I love the intense IPAs out there, but the hops don't try so hard on this one. They just sit back and groove, allowing the malts to come through the mix more. Ultimately, I would say it is a slightly malt-forward, but balanced IPA. Not quite like anything I have ever had before.

wonderful ipa, maybe the best beer i have had from these guys, undoubtedly the best one in a can. quite eerie, even creepy with the writing on the label, but also well schooled and genius in a way, i like clever stuff. its just fantastic, with a good mix of new zealand and northwest hops, a good blend of each here. like so many these days, it has just a little bit more richness to the malt than it needs, but it doesnt detract from the overall beer here because the bright new zealand hops are so forward in it. the aroma is nice, a little sweet, but in the flavor the hops really come out. sunny and summery, i see this as outdoor hot weather beer, and i could drink a ton of it. moderate bitterness balanced by the caramel malt aspect in the finish, and fantastic carbonation. i love this, very colorado, i think its an ipa with an identity, which our state really lacks here. pateros creek maybe missed with the kolsch, red, and porter as their first few cans, but this one should really sell if people havent written them off for their earlier missteps. this is fantastic beer, go try it.
