16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 11/28/2018. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of ginger, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of toffee, molasses, licorice, peppercorn, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, raisin, fig, date, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, spices, and fruity/spicy yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of big ginger, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of toffee, molasses, licorice, peppercorn, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, raisin, fig, date, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, floral, grassy, roasted bitterness; and yeast, ginger, clove, cinnamon spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of ginger, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, dark/brown bread/crust, toffee, molasses, licorice, peppercorn, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark fruit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, spices, and fruity/spicy yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.1%. Overall this is a delicious spiced Belgian winter warmer style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, spices, and fruity/spicy yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/spicy/drying finish, great soft feel. Perfectly balanced rich malts, spices, and Belgian yeast complexity. Not overwhelming on any aspect. A very enjoyable offering, well made, and impressive style example.
