Pitch black. Almost no head. In the aroma roasted coffee upfront, smokey/acidic notes, cherries but only a little. The taste is quite thin. A lot of the smokey/medicinal notes, a bit astringent and very persistent is the aftertaste. The same as eating cocoa powder. Very very little carbonation and thick mouthfeel. Not chewey.
Not bad but not sensational.

330ml into random hotel glassware
L - Pours a bit thin for 9% and effervescent with a thin ring of mocha head
S - Peat smoke dominant with char and a hint of burnt coffee - puts me in mind of clown shoes stouts with peated malt. Not getting any barrel on the nose
T - Peat comes through here too much - overpowers. A touch of fruity sweetness that could be the sherry barrel, but the smoked malt dominates
F - Light and a bit thin
Overall, a nice beer - worth a try, but not really getting any barrel characteristics as the peated malt blasts you with smokiness. I like the smoke, but it needs a bourbon / whiskey barrel treatment (or just no barrel at all) as the PX isn't showing through in any way.
