One of the few craft beers worse than a macro Labatt or Molson, and should be avoided. Strong carbonation, watery beer. Off sweet corn and grass taste, somewhat metallic. Unfinishable. Pale yellow with quick disapearing fizzy head.. Thanks Joey Capps.

Reminds me a little of Alexander Keith's. It's alright, but it's not an IPA. Poured a pale yellow colour. Little darker than Keith's, but not by much. Small foam head that disappeared after the first sip. Hmm, floral hop smell, little tart, little citrus fruit... But the carbonation kept tickling my nose. Tastes bland. Some tart citrus, maybe a little malt/hop combo, but not much is their. Again, watery mouthfeel. Below average swill beer.

This beer used to be on tap from North Bay to Port Arthur. Northern ale was the beer we sucked back at the Timmins maple leaf tavern watching Stompin Tom come off the floor . Whenever I biked through the North Country this beer was in the saddle bags.
This stuffs been around since before the 60s and a couple of generations of Northerners relate to this beer. Since the brewey was taken over and they took their water from different sources, this beer has undergone some periodic changes. What is being offered now is the best they can do with the recipes they have but the process is wanting.
This is NOT the Northern that wrested the North Country taverns from Labatts and Molsons.
This stuff pours a pale gold with lots of carbonation. Little suggestion of hop or grain smell...what I got wafted up with a lot of carbonation. Light head that leaves quickly. A great tart, crisp start but this fades as the mouth is filled with a heavily adjunct tastes (for a light ale) and a finish that has a lingering synthetic sweet taste .not what I like in a mega golden ale.

Northern Ale...Howling wolf on the label with a logo stating "Best of the Pack"
Deep golden colour with a nice white ring around the edge.
Taste is OK, almost bitter sweet with nothing lingering. My first impression was of a fruitiness which quickly left.
Well carbonated and of medium body.
