Dear Auguste Chouteau, founding father of The STL, we toast to you today with a blend of two Saint Louis beverages: coffee from Kaldi’s and beer from UCBC. If you were here to raise a glass with us, you’d find a ‘namesake brew’ of a cold-steeped, savory coffee and a rich, creamy Stout ale.

Pours a dark brown with huge overfloWing head. Looks like a root beer float. Smell is mostly coffee with light chocolate. Taste is heavy coffee but you can tell the added coffee came from something good. Pretty bitter. Heavily carbonated. Fairly thin however. More coffee ale than creamy stout.

Acidic and tart, seems like it's starting to turn already. Bottled 11-15-2016.
Brownish black with a thin layer of tan foam and minimal spotty lace.
Coffee dominates the aroma, a bit ashy and roasty, mild background sweetness.
Taste is tart, coffee and an odd earthy note of peanut butter.
Astringent feel unfortunately, medium bodied but thinner due to the astringent tartness.
Overall a disappointment, I was looking forward to this after loving Cherry Thale's.

Urban Chestnut's website lists this at 5.2% abv. Pours very nice with good carbonation and a hint of dark malt and strong dark roasted coffee. At first sip, the hops hit me as slightly tart, not bitter. That actually works pretty well to offset the strong coffee and has a quick clean finish--odd. The thin mouthfeel disappoints. A bit better than the average brew, helped by the good coffee aroma and flavor, but stout lovers will find it thin and lacking. Perhaps should be considered a porter....?

Appearance: Pretty well black as good coffee should be. Hah! Big head of tan suds and nice loopy lace.
Aroma: Coffee!
Taste: Smooth, mellow coffee, like a nice iced cup, minus the ice. A hint of bitter at the finish, this one rates well and delivers what it promises. A coffee stout that brings the definite roasty character of the coffee very much forward. Quite good and recommended.

Pours an effervescent crimson-hued mahogany with a pinky of sand colored head. Above average head retention & lacing
S: Coffee, vanilla, chocolate
T: Coffee, slight lactic creaminess & dryness up front. Lactic dryness/sourness mixes with coffee grinds as this warms, a little vanilla. Finishes dry with a little coffee grind
MF: Light/medium body, moderate carbonation
Drinks pretty easy, but nothing to get excited about

Poured from a 0.5 L bottle into a Duvel tulip. No discernible date on the bottle.
Look -- An agressive pour gave three fingers of tan head atop an opaque black body. The head leaves nice a nice coating the glass.
Smell -- Roasted grain and an abundance of coffee.
Taste -- Coffee and roasted grain, to no surprise, with a nice light finishing bitterness. It's fairly sweet.
Feel -- A nice viscosity on the mouthfeel. It reads like a stout between the carbonation and body.
Overall -- A straightforward coffee stout. If anything it's a little to straightforward, some more complexity wouldn't go amiss.

L: black with a big head. Fizzy around the glass, frothy in the middle
S: coffee, chocolate and milk
T: Same as the nose. It's like a good milk stout, but with coffee. Very good!
F: fizzy, easy drinking, thin.
O: the best way for a milk stout to be...with coffee!

Pours a black color. 1/3 inch head of a tan color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of strong coffee, roasted malt, sweet malt, slight alcohol, and slight hops. Fits the style of an American Stout. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong coffee, slight roasted malt, slight sweet malt, hint of hops, and a hint of alcohol. Overall, this is almost completely coffee with a little roasted malt to back it up.
