One of the tastiest beers I've ever tried. Rich, hoppy, malty, and a delicious full flavor unlike all others. Give it a try!

Appearance: Pours a clean, deep amber, with an intense head of off-white suds. Not much lace to speak of.
Aroma: Wonderful smoked malts, with notes of woodsy cured meats. Beautiful to behold and definitely reminiscent of the great German Schlenkerla beers.
Taste: Big and heavy on the palate, and a little on the sweet side, but with a ton of smoke. Finishes with a lingering woody warmth that fades slowly. Overall, a solid and enjoyable smoked bock, maybe not to the true German standard, but among the better American takes I’ve had, for sure.

Pours copper with much effervescence with 3 fingers of fast dropping cream colored head. Superior lacing & head retention with much effervescence
S: Smokeyness, faint breadyness & booze
T: Smokey, a little boozey, slight toffee notes up front. More moderate/serious smokeyness, slight dryness, a little booze warmth, & caramel once warm. Finishes with lovely oaky smokeyness, some dryness & a little toffee
MF: Medium body, assertive carbonation , carbonation gets a bit too much once warm
To me this is Bamberg-worthy, I think UC knocked this out of the park

Pours a clear, copper color. 1/2 inch head of an off-white color. Decent retention and decent lacing. Smoke, sweet malt, pale malt, hint of yeast, and a hint of wood. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of smoke, sweet malt, pale malt, hint of yeast, slight alcohol, hint of wheat, and a hint of wood. Overall, good smoke aroma and body, but the blend is off (too acrid), average appearance and feel.

Nice beer, smokey sweet caramel...peppered honey nut goodness.
Starts off more smoke when cold but as it warms softens into a very rounded smoked bock.
Solid, tasty brew worth trying if you like smoked beers.

Poured from a 0.5 L bottle into a Duvel tulip. No visible bottled on or best by date on the bottle itself or the label.
Look -- It pours an amber-brown with a finger of khaki head. It leaves decent lacing.
Smell -- Nutty malts, hints of molasses, caramel sweetness and smoke.
Taste -- Like the nose but the smoke become much more prominent but doesn't overpower the other elements. There is a very light bitterness that mingles with the smoke and the smoke lingers a bit leaving a somewhat ashy aftertaste. The aftertaste is more pleasant than it sounds.
Feel -- Nice heft for a lager on the palate as I'd expect for a bock. It finishes a touch dry.
Overall -- If you like bocks and you like smoke this is a beer I'd recommend giving a try if you can. The smoke component is soft enough to not overpower the nuttiness and sweetness of the malts. Despite the Beer Advocate classification as a doppelbock the label on the bottle is only making a claiming a smoked bock and that's what I've got in mind with this review.

L: copper with white head.
S: typical lager funk/ skunk/ stale
T: same as the aroma but with a big smoke
F: thin, but as expected for a lager. Coats well
O: this was in a stout pack, completely doesn't belong with the rest.

Dark copper colored with excellent clarity and an inch of dense tan foam on top. Aroma is of crisp light malt with notes of sourdough. The smoked aroma is very subtle in this one. The light malty notes are tasting of sourdough bread with a very light smoked malt flavor in the back of the palate. The mouth is light, crisp, and smooth. I wanted more smoked aroma and flavor.

16oz bottle. Poured out a semi-opaque, almost brown color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of caramel, toffee and campfire smoke. Smoky upfront with a sweet caramel and toffee finish.
