We originally brewed this special pale ale to celebrate the 2016 Lunar New Year, an important festival on the Chinese calendar. 2016 is the Year of the Monkey, and we thought it fitting to add a little bit of mischief to the recipe – a touch of fresh ginger. May the combination of ginger with Mandarina Bavaria hops satisfy the monkey in you. Happy New Year & Prost!

16oz can. Poured out a slightly hazy, golden yellow color with a small, white head of bubbly foam. It smelled of ginger and citrus. Sweet citrus flavor with a light ginger presence. Good toasted caramel backbone.

Pours a clear gold color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Great retention and decent lacing. Smells of sweet malt, slight yeast, ginger, earthiness, orange, slight hop, and strong pale malt. Fits the style of an American Pale Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight yeast, ginger, earthiness, orange, slight hop, and strong pale malt. Overall, ginger dominates aroma and body, but otherwise and average APA.

Brass to gold in color with a quarter inch of densely packed off white head. The aroma is reminiscent of sweet Belgian tripel yeast and faint ginger. The taste is of rice with just a suggestion of ginger. The mouth is very light and quaffable.

An interesting spin on an American Pale Ale. Definitely more of a ginger aroma than taste. Interesting pop top can!

16oz can. 5/3/17 can date. Appearance: Deep golden, slightly hazy, with a frothy thick off white head. The head on this beer lasts throughout the entire drink Aroma: Grainy malt behind an herbal, lightly grassy hop aroma. Hard to pick out much in this mellow aroma Taste: Moderate grainy malt sweetness up front the leads into notes of bitter orange peel and ginger. Grassy, light citrus bitterness builds into a strong dry bitterness on the swallow Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate to high carbonation. Finish: Orange peel and ginger stick around long after the swallow to go along with the dry finish and lingering bitterness. Overall: The aroma starts off underwhelming, but beyond that there’s a nice complexity of citrus peel and ginger against a dry grassy bitterness. Amazing head retention. This wouldn’t make a list of top APAs, but I’d drink it again

Pours a golden color with a foamy white head that lasts quite a while. No discernable aroma. Malty sweet taste up front. Finishes with bitter hops and orange.

This brew is a clear, amber-golden colored brew. It has an intense ginger scent. There is a tart spice and sweetness underneath the ginger scent. The taste is dryer than I thought it would be (maybe the rice?), but the ginger is (maybe) more intense. Spice and an abrupt finish. Medium in body. Interesting and worth a try.
