a tasty new one i enjoyed over at the grove location, i had no idea these guys really dabbled in this sort of thing, but its delicious and like all of their beer, technically flawless. clearish deep copper to mahogany colored brew with a short off white head, fizzy like a soda. the aroma and flavor start with a nice nutty maltiness, dry and bready and kilned, short of caramelized but i get light toffee and hazelnut tones, with a unique barley complexion, something unfamiliar here. the yeast tastes like a mix of cooler fermented saison type and european lager yeast, it has a sort of maturity to it on the yeast side, but isnt estery like a farmhouse, just sort of rustic in that way. mature and interesting, but brilliantly subtle. medium bodied, a touch sweet, baked and warming and hearty, a really cool beer for these guys to take on and execute this well. they always seem to masterfully do everything, this is so refined and professional, a really drinkable and delicious example of the style that we so rarely see done this well by an american brewery! bravo.
