We recently teamed up with the folks at Square One Coffee to create something a little different than your typical coffee beer. They wanted something that complimented the bright and fruity notes of their award winning Ethiopia Guji. The result - Best of Both Brews - SQ1 Coffee IPA, we think you'll love it, we know we do.

In winnowing through the backlog this Summer, I discovered this beer for The CANQuest (tm) & although I usually take my coffee in the morning, I am having this Coffee IPA tonight.
From the CAN: "The SQ1 Coffee Collaboration".
I Crack!ed open the vent & when I got some light foaming, I decided to go with a slow, gentle Glug. This resulted in the formation of two fingers of foamy, soapy, rocky, tawny head with moderate retention. Color was a hazy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose smelled strongly of coffee with just a light hoppy presence. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was strongly coffee with light undertones of hops, but it was mainly coffee. This would be great if you love coffee, as I do, but stylistically, it did not fit the parameters of the style. Finish was dry & bitter, but the bitterness was hard to place - was it coming from the coffee, from the hops, from both? Not a bad beer, per se, but not in line with the style.
