Tidings is one of my favorite Winter beers, and while I don't think this version is an improvement per say, it is a interesting, creative, and nicely complementary rendition of the original.
The body looks and feels lighter than the original - golden yellow with some lacing, and a creamy start which gives way to a crisp, zesty mouthfeel.
The nose and flavor match each other quite consistently. It tastes like Tidings and it tastes like mead, both at the same time. The honey liquor flavor of the mead with it's strange combination of sweet in the front and dry in the finish are some of the notable characteristics. You also get the sweet, lemony, gingery, baking spice flavor of traditional Tidings.
A wonderful experiment that I'd be excited to try again. It is about 11% alcohol, which gives it a strength I don't think this beer needs, but flavor-wise, it's solid.
