Port City German Pilsner is drier and blonder than a Bohemian-style Pilsner, this lager looks to Germany for inspiration. A long lager fermentation makes room for noble hops and pilsner malt to shine. Beauty in simplicity.

From the pint can, it pours a clear light yellow color with a nice white head that slowly reduces and leaves a bit of lacing. In the nose, the grassy hops come through. The taste is lightly bitter, in the German style, with a mild bitterness remaining.

From a pint can. Pour has a fluffy white foam head, some bubbles, and a clear golden to pale golden body. The head takes a bit of time to settle. Scent is crisp, with notes of floral/spice, and a bit of sweet malt -- aligning pretty well with many pilsners. Taste has a solid bout of floral/spicy bitterness and malts lingering in the background. Feel is on the lighter side of medium, crisp and dry, with a firm degree of bitterness throughout and in the aftertaste. Generally don't drink a lot of pilsners, but this was quite enjoyable and really matched my expectations of the style.

Pours a lightly hazy golden. For a keller pilsner, this feels like it's gotten some lagering time. It's crisp and super drinkable. Like you could drink liters upon liters of this beer. That's the first thing you realize. It's got light doughy bread. Also, some bright limey floral citrus zest character as well. It is dry. I need to revisit Downright and I do like German Pils better, but to me, this is light years better than Downright and should be their year round pils. It is awesome.

Poured from crowler to glass. Pale yellow, clear, with a few fingers of light, fluffy head. Aromas of cracker and pepper, floral notes. Nice medium feel and flavor with clean malt and peppery /grassy finish. Clean, crisp.

Growler, couple hours after pour:
Crystal clear after a little chill haze fades. Fluffy white head builds according to strength of pour. Nice thin white coverage that thickens greatly at the edge of the glass. Huge splotches of lace in this pour are disparate.

What started as a grassy hop nose slowly became more malty as the beer warmed. Specifically, by the time I was a third of the glass through, there was a nice Pilsner malt nose with a classic old world hop bitterness. This more classic nose is not a surprise coming from Port City.

Taste has a nice, semi-sweet Pilsner malt opening - perhaps a tad sweeter than expected. A grainy to hay like neutrality comes next before a lightly dry herbal note came to the fore. The beer seems to switch on me from slightly on the bitter side to slightly malty, with a nice, very lightly toasted grain aspect. Smooth even with a rolling carbonation that keeps the beer fairly light

Pretty much a classical German Pils - I've got to go with balanced as I sway from the bitter notes to the malty with each sip.

The beer pours a nice and strong white head that takes a moderate pace to dissipate. The beer itself is a very good looking clear pale gold color with a really nice metallic sheen.

The taste and smell are both superb. There is a very good balance between the light herbal and earthy hop notes and the sweet pale malt notes. The hops tend to be forward in the nose and taste while the pale malts come out well in the finish during the taste.

The feel is good. It has a light body but has a nice noticeable enough heft to keep the beer from feeling thin as it goes down smoothly.

Overall, a very good addition to PC's Lager Series. This definitely one to get during the dog days of summer before it starts turning cold.
