TART, CITRUS, SLIGHTLY SALTY

Port City Brewing Company's Cobblestone Sour draws its inspiration from the historic charm and character of cobblestone streets. These weathered pathways tell tales of centuries past, and it is this rich tapestry of history and texture that has been woven into the body of this lightly tart, citrusy sour beer. The beer pours with a hue reminiscent of the warm, sunlit glow reflecting off the weathered stones. The aroma is a medley of fragrances that mirror the surroundings of an old-world street — hints of the earthiness from the moss-covered stones, the subtle sweetness of nearby florals, and the refreshing effervescence in the air.

Good sour if your’re “just getting into sours” Finish could have been…bolder? I will drink this again.

I struggled on the style, as I think this may be an in-fruited kettle sour, but the Port City website indicated “slightly salty” - so I went with Gose.

Pale yellow with a medium-minus thick collar of white foam. Nose is dry grassy grain with a zesty line sour note. There’s a light hint of barnyard that I’m not sure meets the brewery description of “earthiness from moss covered stones” - but maybe.

Opening is light and slightly watery, but grain notes quickly fill in. Tartness is muted to a nice level, more like a spritz of lime versus squeezing a half lime into the glass. I get some of the salinity the brewer mentions as the beer softens before the end. I’d go a bit more grain than earth, though there is a subtle lime rind bitterness to the finish, just enough to coax another sip.

A pretty solid refreshing, subtlety sour beer that reminds me of a less tart SeaQuench.
