Monkspell is a classic Belgian-style tripel. Honey gold with a thick cap of mousse-like foam, Monkspell's deceptively dry body provides a perfect playground for spicy Belgian yeast character, marrying complexity and approachability.

Hazed pale sunset orange with a thin antique white head that quickly settles into a cap and crown that leaves thin sheets of lacing. Banana and cloves in the aroma and taste. Hints of vanilla and orange blossom on the backend and otherwise a bit thin in the finish. Full, chewy mouthfeel with pillowy carbonation. Better than I expected.

Peppery esters predominate. Very easy to drink for 8.5% alcohol. Very nice.

From the bottle, it pours a cloudy amber color with a modest, soon diminishing, white head. The nose gets some fruitiness and grassy scents. The mouth gets some yeast, some rock candy and some fruitiness.

Cloudy dark yellow, thin white head, no real retention, thin rings of lace that slip back down
Doughy malt, banana, some clove on the nose
tastes like it smells, doughy flavor clings to the mouth
Medium light bodied, could use more carbonation
This might be the worst beer I've had from Port City

Modest haze in the golden hue; small white head left light lacing. Unmistakable Belgian yeast aroma that was spicy and sweet. Grainy, bittersweet flavor. Spiciness maintains a steady presence. Dry aftertaste. Strong but nimble mouthfeel. Good carbonation. Final impression greater than the individual attributes.

On tap:
Hazed golden with an odd “brightness” to it. The head didn’t live up to PC’s description in this pour. Nose is fairly classic Belgian spicy yeast, with some floral, bread, and grass notes.
Smooth feel with lighter than expected carbonation. A little more bitter grass in the taste than expected from the nose. Light yeasty fruit and finishing spice. Starts dry and finishes with a hint of sweetness, reverse of what I’m used to.
