An imperial stout brewed in collaboration with George Howell coffee. Loaded with chocolate malts, lactose, and oh so many cups of Joe! George Howell was kind enough to provide us with their Alchemy blend, which is made up of beans from Costa Rica, Brazil, Guatemala, and Ethiopia, providing notes of chocolate and almond. Also present are palate pleasers like malty milk chocolate and creamy caramel. This 10.5% imperial stout will have baristas scratching their chins.

This is fun, but a bit weird. The coffee and lactose are a bit over the top, but I guess it is an imperial. Feel with the leeway that an imperial gives witgalt usage that some.of these flavors could have been instilled.more subtley with malt selextion.

Poured on draft at the brewery.
Pours a deep, dark brown color with 2 fingers of effervescent khaki head. The head leaves a ring of cobwebs around the top of the glass before settling into a thick foam resting gently atop The beer.
The aroma is very roasted and nutty, with notes of pecans and fresh coffee grounds. There's also plenty of almonds and hazelnuts followed by a strong wave of dark chocolate and dark roasted malts.
The flavor is a coffee bomb. Dark roast coffee, mocha, and caramel macchiato flavors lead the way. Finishes with a wave of baker's chocolate and a bitter hop finish. Nicely balanced.
The feel is medium-full bodied with soft carbonation. Very creamy and smooth, and just a tad syrupy. The alcohol is extremely well-hidden. Drinks like a 7% stout rather than a ten fiddy double beast.
Overall, a great and flavorful imperial stout that is beautifully balanced and highly drinkable. This one sneaks up on you as it hides the ABV so well. If you enjoy coffee flavors in beer you will definitely enjoy this one.
