This is unlike any IPA I've ever had. Mystic has really achieved something special with their Frappe IPAs (Apriplum was my first), which manage to incorporate fruit into both flavor and smell without becoming sour. The lactose makes the mouthfeel really soft, which makes it really easy to drink. Not a hoppy beer, but it's very enjoyable and a very unique offering.

Since milkshake IPA's are a substyle of New England styled IPA's, this was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice milky thick purple color with a modest thin cap of a little white foamy head quickly sliding off. Some stuck messy lace around the glass.
The aroma had an absolutely wonderful blend and one I nurtured as long as I could. The sweetness of the blackberry bled into an authentic tartness with a mellow lemon rind. Delicate creamy lactose sweetly came in underneath.
The flavor blended absolutely fantastic! What a wonderful experience of how the blackberry seemed to adjust to a give and take sweet to tart character while meshing thoroughly on into the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Nice low carbonation as expected with an appropriate ABV. Finish is exactly what I wanted and expected - full crisp sweet and tart blackberry flesh and skin dialing into a mellow creamy lactose character.
Overall, what an unexpectant milkshake IPA! I have found many milkshake IPA's have been lacking as of lately but leave it to Mystic to follow through and bring a top notch one out into the open.

Canned 10/05/18.
#notanipa
Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch light pink head (#notanipa) over a dark pink body (#notanipa) with some sticky lacing, Nose of blackberry (#notanipa) and lactose. Taste follows nose into fruit beer land (#notanipa) with no proper IPA carb feel. Overall, damn, I drank less than 4 ounces and will not drink any more. Why was this beer allowed into the "American IPA" style? #notanipa Cheers?
