I always get excited when I see a Kellerbier on the shelf. An underappreciated style.... And one of my personal favorites.
Crystal clear golden color. Nice carbonation forming the classic pure white foam cover. Slow dissipation with clumpy, Lacy leftovers.
Oooh That malty effervescent aroma! Golden grains of the field, doughy white bread, sour and tangy lager yeast with the classic herbal and green veggie hop scent pulling it all together.
The crisp malty bite is spot-on. Grainy but clean tasting malt, slightly bready with a tangy yeast kick. The hops are subtle with green leafy and herbal notes. Perhaps a bit of mint. The aftertaste has golden grains like wheat and spelt and then a tangy after bite from the yeast and hop combo.
Mouth feel starts out light and crispy, excellent clean malty kick, then the malt in it's complexity brings it to a medium bodied effect that finishes very clean and slightly dry.
Overall, very excellent feel with big complexities from the malt and nice balance if flavor's for the style. It's nice to see styles like Kellerbier popping up. Let's hope this trend continues.

Pours a large foamy dense head that fades semi slowly, moderate retention and a bit of soapy lacing, very hazy medium orange color
Nose big bready straw-like cereal lager malt, grainy and a little doughy, light corn DMS, and hint of sulfates, no fruity esters or green apple or other yeast additions, very light floral hops, as it warms a touch of a lemony fruit ester note
Taste more malt, lots of lager malts with doughy grainy malt, straw, a bit grassy hay, cereal grain, touch of sweetness and creamy suspended proteins and yeast, a touch of DMS corn, faint fruity lemony esters, no other yeast additions, light floral herbal hops start to come through, starting with a light bitterness then increasing quite a bit on the back end to a medium-high hop bitterness almost like a Czech pils level, hop crispness accentuated by a little sulfate note, hops getting spicy on the back end as well, the soft creamy lager and sweet malt fades quickly into the dry crisp bitter bite on the finish
Mouth is med to a bit lighter bod, soft lager and creamy suspended yeast/proteins, medium carb
Overall not bad, the malt is on with nice lager malts, some complexity (although not up to the great German ones), nice yeast suspended and early kellerbier style additions, my only gripe is the high hop bitter bite on the finish, even more so than typical German pilsners I think, but it's a nice touch in general if you're looking for that bite, and it's interesting how it creeps up
