Wolverine calls this a triple IPL so I'm going to go ahead and say I was happy to "TIPL" this one. I'm a fan of higher gravity lagers, especially the doppelbocks and eisbocks. But this is different, showcasing hops. The nose is vaguely hoppy along with the faintly sour smell of a lager. The quality on tasting is just what one would expect of a heavily hopped, high abv lager, with little of anything other than malt and hops. The hops are sharp, with some strong vanilla overtones and surprisingly light fruit flavors (papaya works). The finish is surprisingly crisp and dry, which is weird because the mouthfeel is definitely a bit syrupy. Worth a try, even for the expensive pour.

There is really no flavor of beer I've had like this. Citrus. Hoppy. Smooth going down. And stronger than it tastes. Must try.

There aren't many beers that really blow my hair back these days. Everything tastes kind of like something else. New and innovative beers are seemingly harder and harder to come by. This beer is by far the most interesting one I have had this year so far. While I cannot say it is my favorite beer, it stands out by delivering such astounding flavor without any apparent additions of adjuncts. It tastes like a papaya and mango smoothie. Bitterness is subdued, and the tropical fruit flavors are overwhelming. By far the best use of hops I have come across recently.
