A gift from my good friend and Phytogen cottonseed agronomist, Russell Nuti: This example from a growler which has obviously lost some of its carbonation. Pours a clear, garnet hued mahogany which produced no head and thus no lace. Aroma is dark yeasty bread, banana, clove, raisin, burnt sugar, roast and a hint of alcohol. Taste is rich dark bread, raisin, dark cherry, bubble gum (banana and clove), caramel, molasses, pepper, spice and a hint in the finish which is similar to ethyl acetate. As off-putting as that sounds, it is not. Quite pleasant. The alcohol is very well hidden for an 11.3% ABV, and comes forward mostly as a bitterness. Low carbonation. Smells and tastes good, but very moderately bodied for the style. A simple straightforward quad lacking the complexity I've come to expect in the style. In it's defense it could be the way it's been handled, coming from a growler. With that said it's good enough for me to purchase it from time to time if available.

Dark Hammer has a thin, beige head and a red-brown appearance, with no lacing. The aroma is of dark-roasted malt. The flavor is of candi sugar, brown bread crust, and no bitterness. Dark Hammer has a medium body and a semi-sweet finish.

I am amazed by this! Such a good beer. Smooth, fruity, and great aroma! The only thing I would add is the ABV is incorrect on here. The can I bought notes it as a 10.8% beer, not a 9.6%.

Tallgrass snifter
Pours a scarlet ruby color with a thin creamy head of 1/2 finger.
Aroma of some bright cantaloupe fruit, pineapple, vanillin, and moldy malt liquor. Also smells a bit like a condom.
Flavor is alcoholic, somewhat like a malt liquor, drinks like it too. Not much depth except for stickiness and slight honey sweetness. Some sharp graham malt and slight grass.
Feel is wet, then carbonated, then somewhat drying on the finish. Minimal heat.
Overall, smells, tastes, and drinks like a cheap-ass malt liquor but strangely it somehow works. I don't think I'd purchase it again because it's a shitty Quad, but as a beer in general, it feels like it's gonna create some memories. This is the epitome of a sexual drunken blackout night. Points.

22 oz bottle poured into a nonic pint
A: light brown Amber body with good clarity small fizzy off-white head dissipates quickly.
S: light clove banana some toffee burnt sugars
T: lots of the Burnt sugar taste comes through some slight molasses and light clove and some toffee.
M: prickly carbonation medium bodied light cling on the finish.
O: it's an OK beer it lacks depth of a lot of your Belgian quads. Lots of burnt sugars but none of the raisin, figs, and dates that a nicer quad has.

From a bomber I have had a while. from an Alabama friend
More fizz gone fast with no lacing than head ,mahogany color showing some red when light hits it
Fruity yeasty ,some Belgian funk
Some sweetness and yeast with traces of fruit
Thin compared to world class quads. but some texture
Actually better than expected

Appearance - The beer was a murky black color with some bubbles crowning the sides of the glass.
Smell - Banana Candy. In a big way, this smelled like candy.
Taste - On the initial taste, I detect banana candy. The chocolate comes in the aftertaste and leans toward the dry side.
Mouthfeel - Despite a little bit of heat, the beer is quite smooth and lingers in the mouth.
Overall - This is a very respectable quad.
