Yet another selection from Alabama, roll tide! This is the prettiest looking beer I've ever had from Alabama. It also might be the best.
Solid midnight black color to it with 1" beige head on top. A beautiful sight with all that retention. The aroma has that schwarzbier like bittering hop to it like you're getting a black ipl kind of, but you know, the power of the schwarz and whatnot.
Taste has a light roasty cola diner coffee malt aspect, uppity hopping and carbonation for the mouthfeel. Its an interesting drink, right in the style wheelhouse, and another surprising choice coming out of Alabama, best country band of all time. I really like Midland too, another geographically named country band. I'd say its easier to drink than it looks.
Interestingly enough, the corporate ownership's bigger website has this listed as a schwarzbier. I'd say they're not just more popular over there, but more accurate when it comes to this beer.

Drank October 2023 from 12oz can in pint glass. There is a date of OCT-3-2023 on the bottom of the can with the quote "ALL ABOARD"
Appearance: Black/Tan color, with a thick tan head. The head lasted a minute leaving only light lacing on the glass.
Smell: There are roasted malt aromas, along with some chocolate aromas. Some hops in the aroma, but it is very slight. The malt aroma dominates.
Taste: Medium-bodied with mix of malt and other flavors. There is slight sweetness of chocolate and a little vanilla flavor. Mostly roasted malts, coffee, and coffee flavors. The alcohol flavor is mild and not overwhelming.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, and smooth. Mild alcohol which matches with the 5.4% on the label.
Overall: This was the first time I tried this beer. It is a good beer to drink, and not overly strong. I would buy this again.

I like the low hops hi malt sweet profile. But the burnt notes are a bit pronounced so the flavor is out of balance. If the grain was a bit less towards the burnt direction I think this could be decent. I agree with other rebirth at the carbonation is a little low.

In Laurel:
LOOK: Pours a tan - brown, 3 finger head that disappears in 90 seconds, leaving a dark brown - black liquid that is not at all visually inviting. Head retention is poor and side glass lace is minimal at best.
AROMA: Roasted malts, toasted breads some dark chocolate and coffee beans.
TASTE: Heavy roasted malt flavor and some bakers chocolate. There is an absence of hops.
FEEL: Very low in carbonation.
Disappointing dark lager.

I LOVE this beer. Pretty much spoiled it for me for other beers, although there are some other beers I think are decent. The only other beer I've found that is an equal of this beer is some beer I drank in Missouri that I can't remember the name of. Fortunately, my wife and I are relatively nearby, so I can fill my growlers up with Midnight Special whenever I'm in that part of town.

8/2019...pours dark brown bordering on black. Very little foam. Chocolate nose. Smooth creamy chocolate malty taste. Very light bitter behind it. Mostly chocolate flavor. Pretty good.
