Upping the ante on their classic Envie pale ale, the normal taste of citrus, tropical and berry is bursting with the added tropical fruit, melon and stone fruit character from El Dorado hops in the dry hopping stage, not once, but twice.
Double dry Hopped El Dorado Envie pours with the typical hazy, honey gold austere and crowned with a frothy white cap. Aromas of herb, grass and fragrant woods come with the expected tropical, citrus and nuanced fruit perfumes of both base and celebrated hops. Light honey, pastry and fruit sweetness carry a simple sugar character gently onto the initial palate.
And as the ale opens up on the tongue, the malt sweetness fades and the hops begin to shine. Its underlayment of mango, strawberry and orange is soon exacerbated with the character of lemon, hay, pepper, sassafras and tea that add an exotic complement to their passionfruit forward taste. A spicy bitterness follows with an overall grassy, stemmy and leafy bite.
Medium bodied and holding firm but dry on the malt front, the beer never dries to the degree that would an IPA, but the hops stand out regardless. Its strong ease of drinking comes with an herbal tea finish and a long spicy bitterness of botanicals and a light herbal astringency that resonates in aftertaste.
