Devil's Envy combines our deep love of beer with our other passion, whiskey. The first in the Inner Circle Series, this limited barrel-aged brew redefines balance. Rich molasses, smooth vanilla, and a familiar Tennessee bite derived from the American White Oak harmonize with the dried fruit notes and caramel malts from our ENVY amber. Of all the sins, this is the Devil's favorite.

The pour is true to an amber... amber in color. It has a nice head that dissipates into a ring around the glass.
The smell is brilliant! It isn't a subtle whiskey nor is it too overpowering and offensive. Admittedly, it doesn't smell like much else.
The taste is the most intriguing part of this beer. It tastes like a low ABV whiskey amber. The whiskey is a little forward, drowning out all but the malt from the amber. There is also molasses, vanilla, and raisins- a lot of complexities that I wouldn't expect from a Texas brewery.
The feel is a little thick, a little lingering malt. I wouldn't expect this style to be crisp so the feel is very fitting.
Circle has definitely redefined a style with this concoction. I wouldn't have guessed it possible to create such an interesting amber.

Omg. Unbelievable depth of flavor. Whiskey plus hints of chocolate but very smooth and drinkable. Outstanding!!!

Poured at 45°F from a 12oz bottle (no date) into a pint glass. Consumed on 21Dec15.
LOOK: Pours with two fingers worth of khaki foam that dissipates into a quarter finger after 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Amber in color with an extreme amount of cloudiness. Rising bubbles are moderate in quantity and medium in size. Lacing is thin and subtle.
SMELL: Mild aromas of whiskey (more along the aroma of Jack Daniels than any other whiskey that I have tried during my college years), vanilla, black cherries, raisins, prunes, and molasses entangle with subtle caramel, sweet bread, and spicy hop aromas along with hints of oak.
TASTE: Mild whiskey, raisin, black cherry, prune, and oak flavors first enter into the palate. The oak is definitely more assertive in the taste. Mild flavors of molasses and subtle vanilla flavors immediately follow as whiskey flavors grow slightly stronger. Subtle sweet bread, spicy hop, and caramel flavors enter lastly as all previous flavors persist.
FEEL: Medium-bodied and moderately carbonated. Goes down somewhat smooth and somewhat creamy. Finishes with a hint of dryness.
NOTE: If you are a whiskey lover, fear not! This is your beer. Although not strong, the whiskey flavors still managed to steal the spotlight. They weren't overpowering, but the malts and hops just weren't in the right places for my personal tastes. I would love to buy another one and let it age for a couple of months to see if the whiskey heat would die down.

Whiskey taste really comes through. Love the oak aroma. If you like whiskey, you'll probably love this beer.

An interesting beer as you rarely see a low abv barrel aged beer, especially not an amber aged in whiskey barrels. I think Circle pulled it off well; this comes off as complex, yet someaht light in body. Their Nightlight Aged in Jack Daniels is an even better example of this approach.
