Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a copper-orange color with a one finger head of off white foam. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading over time to leave a tiny bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is super wheaty with tons of big banana sweetness. Along with these smells comes notes of coriander and clove as well as a little bit of a orange blossom sweetness.
Taste – The taste begins with a very fruity sweet wheat bread taste. The fruit is predominantly of a banana and orange nature but contains some light harvest fruits and grape as well. These flavors are very strong throughout the taste and create a base flavor for the brew. As the taste advances the wheatiness however does get slightly weaker and the fruitiness slightly stronger. All the while flavors of a yeastiness develop, and while very subtle upfront, more flavors of clove come to the tongue. With a touch of booziness that comes a the very end, one is left with a very sweet wheaty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is lower. For the massive fruitiness and wheatiness of the brew the feel is very appropriate giving a nice chewiness to the sweet bread taste.
Overall – A little heavy on the sweet and malt for my taste, but interesting non the less. Hefe’s don’t really need to be imperials in my mind as the flavor profile is traditionally better with a bit more subtleness. Overall fun to try, but not one I will go back to again.
