Handsome dark brownish amber with a modest foam. Plenty of carbonation in the mouth, even a club soda tang. Musty, fruity aroma. Substantial mouthfeel.
Moderately sweet and quite malty. A touch of smoke and butter. I don't care so much for the spoiled fruit taste, but maybe it's the smoke. Darkly woody. Burnt raisin toast. This seems more bitter than you'd want a Scotch Ale to be. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Elizabeth Station in Bellingham.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a tulip.
Appearance: rich brown hue with quite a lot of red when held up to the light. The body is clear and there's a finger of frothy tan foam atop with a good lace left on the glass. I think it's quite attractive.
Smell: quite toasty but with a noticeable caramel underneath and even a dash of chocolate. Not bad at all.
Taste: quite toasty and quite biscuity -- too much so for my taste. That said, there's good balance in this beer; it just emphasizes a flavor quality of which I'm not a fan. Bitterness is pretty heavy for the style and comes on right at the end; it's not unwelcome.
Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good carbonation and a good creaminess. Very good indeed.
Overall: this beer seems well-crafted, if not especially to my taste. I do like the fact that it's a take on a Scotch ale that's relatively restrained in the ABV department. It's worth a try if you like the style (or reds, or altbiers, of which this really reminds me).
