Oak Aged Hop Scotch Ale

Served into a pint glass from a 12oz bottle.

Appearance: Very dark brown color which is typical for Scotch Ales/Wee Heavy's. It leaves a good amount of lacing. It also gave about a finger of head.

Smell: It's very piney at front, but I could pick up hints of caramel and sweetness.

Taste: Very hoppy at the start, but like the smell, the beer is overwhelmed by a sweet caramel flavor. I can sense tiny hints of vanilla also. There is also a slight note of bitterness towards the end. I can also taste the alcohol, but it's really subtle. It doesn't ruin the rest of the flavor.

Mouthfeel: It's very creamy, but not that thick. It is low in carbonation.

Overall: It's a great beer from a brewery that deserves the recognition it's been getting recently. I definitely enjoyed this beer a lot.

12 oz. bottle purchased at the bottle release. The bagpipe player was hilarious.

Appearance - Deep mahogany body. Reddish looking when light shines through. Nice body, but the head is weak. Almost no head and no lacing.

Smell - Pine hops and some citrus, but it's all fairly subdued. I had a taste of this from the fermenter and it was REALLY hoppy in the aroma. It seems to have retracted quite a bit since then. The dominant flavor is the malt, which is nice. A lot of butterscotch with some nice vanilla.

Taste - Very much follows the aroma. A strong hop flavor up front, but it blend seamlessly into the body of the beer. Pine fades to butterscotch and caramel, with the slightest bitterness at the end. The hops up front give it a complexity that would otherwise be lacking.

Mouthfeel - It's really low in carbonation. Almost flat. That's kind of a problem for me. It doesn't take away from the beer too much, but it does make it a bit sluggish. Very oily and slick in the body, in keeping with the style.

Overall - I'm impressed. I think the taste I had from the fermenter actually scared me a bit. It was REALLY hoppy. It seems to have settled into a well-balanced beer. Great to see this brewery putting out high-quality beers.

A - pours a burgundy red with a cream colored 1 finger head

S - Smells of carmel, chocolate, butterscotch and vanilla. Very subdued hop profile and oak tannins are present but not overtly.

T - Loads of carmel and butterscotch, some vanilla from the oak as well as a sweet hop flavor that leaves a mild bit on the back end.

M - creamy, medium bodied with good carbonations considering this was a beer gunned bottle.

Overall this beer is extremely tasty, loaded with flavor. I def wish i would have bought more. Matt well done my friend!

Bought at TBC release party. Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into my tulip.

A – Poured out a dark mahogany brown with about a half finger of off white head. Settles down quickly to a nice cover. Good lacing down the glass.

S – Malty aromas up front with a nice hop bitterness in the nose. Fruit. Slight sweet smell.

T – Starts off with a nice hop bite and citrusy grapefuit flavor. Quickly moves on to a roasty taste with a great subtle caramel sweetness. Slightly smoky which I am guessing comes from the oak. Taste of butterscotch as well.

M – Full bodied with low carbonation. Creamy all the way through. Very drinkable.

O – This is a great brew. Has a nice balance of hops and roast giving it a bitter and sweet taste. Dangerously drinkable at 9% ABV. Glad I bought the max on these. Excellent.
