Appearance- Pours up a whole bunch of fluffy, cotton head which has really good retention. The head is a pure cotton-white while the body is a mix of golden straw and pale amber which appears as a weak golden straw when held up to the light. Lacing is huge patches of sheeting.
Nose- Very subdued and pilsner like. I get a little bit of grain and cereal but not much else. Some citrus notes appear as very clean orange and lemon. Some floral and perfume character.
Taste- Definite proof that a “lighter” beer can pack huge flavor without being domineering. Lots of grain and cereal which transition into sweeter malt notes (some brown bread, a bit of citrus (orange)). Finish has spicy German hops which rein in the malt bill quite well. Some notes of wheat and grass in the middle. Herbal notes on the finish. Fairly complex but the great integration and balance can make it hard to notice this. Floral notes as well with a touch of honey. Biscuit and light banana esters. Good to really good beer.
Mouthfeel- Probably the best aspect of this beer. Between light and medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation which has a little zip. Still manages to be quite smooth and creamy.
Drinkability- Very easygoing, so clean, crisp, and refreshing. This is one of the best light colored lagers I've ever had. Very well crafted with lots of integrity and structure.
Overall- Good to very good beer that appears to be a good representation of a style not really brewed outside of a few towns in Germany. I would definitely recommend this beer because not only is a good beer, it's a great learning opportunity.
