The refreshing wheat beers of Belgium are some of our favorite to drink. We’re planning on making a few different versions this summer, with the first being a traditional take on the style: coriander and orange peel. The coriander is a California grown variety that we picked up during the Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego.

Had on tap at Commons Tap Room in Portland, OR

A super light colored honey yellow body with a bright white head and stellar retention.

Pleasant aromas of lemon and orange zest with ample carbonation keeping a healthy wheaty backbone in the distance.

This is a very solid though, ultimately, relatively innocuous offering. Very good, but unmemorable.

750ml : tulip

Lightly hazy golden yellow, some light carbonation rising to a thick, foamy white head. Quite nice.

Really pleasant nose, orange and lime upfront blends nicely into coriander and wheat backing.

Fresh coriander and lime/orange zest on the palate.

Medium body with light prickly carbonation.

A really well executed Wit. The lime zest is a very nice addition to the standard orange peel and coriander. Especially nice as each ingredient really shines, but they all still come together nicely.

Bottle picked up in Portland and opened on 9.5.12.

A - Pours a cloudy, dull orange with a fizzy white one inch head that fades rather quickly.

S - Corriander, spices, some citrus and Belgian yeast.

T - Nice spices here, yeast, wheat. Pretty good.

D - Lots of carbonation with a medium body.

O - Very nice palate here with a pleasant spice mix.

750 cl bottle obtained in trade, shared with beer homey, thanks Josh.

Light gold body clear, two fingers white head, medium dissipation, minimal lacing, some small rising bubbles visible. Once warmed coriander is fairly prominent, faint orange peel notes, not much in the way of hops. Fairly well balanced tasted wise re coriander and orange peel notes, some faint floral hop notes. Mouthfeel on the light side of medium, ok effervescence. Really easy drinking and balanced. Worth a try.
