A chocolate porter brewed with wheat. The Tennessee Waltz is playing in the background. Omen? I really don't know.
A: The porter is a deep cocoa brown color, nearly black from afar. A dark tan head accentuates the fullness of the porter.
S: Semisweet chocolate, burnt and bitter, along with wheat and roasted malts all take turns in the spotlight. The chocolate/wheat combination is interesting.
T: The chocolate stands out more in the taste, a bitter chocolate like baker's chocolate. The dark flavors fit in nicely with the roasted malts supporting the porter. As those flavors mesh together, the big finish surprised me most. Wheat actually managed to come through and dominate the finish! That's right, the lightly tart wheat pushed through the darker flavors and gave the ale a bit of a zing on the way out. A very pleasant surpise.
M: My favorite of the line-up, the acrid bitterness up front followed by wheat on the close. A good beer.
