Pours black with two fingers of khaki head. Head retention is good with great lacing left behind. Aroma is roasted and toasted malts right up front. Light notes of a medium coffee roast, vanilla beans, and molasses slither in among the malts. Flavor profile is light bodied notes of medium-roast coffee, milk chocolate, vanilla beans, and molasses all sat between notes of roasted and toasted malts. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a velvety texture that borders on filling. It isn't as thick as a meal in a glass, but it certainly has good presence. Overall, its a well rounded, medium-heavy stout with coffee and vanilla beans.

Too much coffee, it overpowers all the chocolate and barrel flavors, hoping some time in the cellar mellows it out

an absolutely fabulous stout and a little something different, even in the crowded adjunct huge stout category. i was stoked on this one. its a wheated stout as a base, which i think is just such a great place to launch from. it adds the dark midnight wheat flavor, a paler wheat body and layering, and a cocoa element that lingers longer than it would without such a heavy and varied wheat complexion. its big and drier and delicious. the additives are awesome here too, not overdone and the base beer still leads the way. i love the coffee in it, seemingly a cold press added after fermentation, no acidity at all and a noticeable caffeine hit. a little chocolate sweetness, but that seems as much from the malt as from an added chocolate, some dark bitter chocolate here too. vanilla is minimal, i think this is an element thats easily overdone, and its not here at all, an accent at the most, and something i might not even notice if i wasnt told it was there. i love the complexity of this, and it starts with the malt base. so many of these have the same point of departure, but this base beer is decidedly different, and its really good. maybe my favorite beer i have had from these guys so far. no trace of its strength at all either. superb brew!

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle dated 5/10/16. The beer pours a deep black with a tall, thick, tan head with tally nice retention and thick lacing.
The smell is lots of dark roasted malts, chocolate, and a very small amount of coffee.
The taste follows with roasted malts and chocolate up front. There is a nice, sweet vanilla flavor on the finish. The coffee is still there after a year, not it's not strong.
The mouthfeel is slightly thinner than expected from the thick head, but it's still pretty thick with minimal carbonation. It's very smooth.
Overall this is a nice imperial stout with tons of dark roast malt flavor.

L: pours black with a finger of head. Not pitch black, and didn't pour ultra thick, but looks good.
S: chocolate, some dark fruit like grapes and raisins.
T: a coffee and cream thing, chocolate. It has a bitter aftertaste of black licorice that lingers, not a fan.
F: highly carbonated, medium thickness.
