I let this one age even more so than what the brewer did, and it was still boozy...
Not only booze-forward to the nose but with no doubt taste-wise. The smell was a unique mixture of booze and some dates, I kinda liked it, and it translated for me the same to the tongue. Unfortunately, the booze-forward nature of this brew detracted from the overall experience. Still, something definitely worth the try...

33cL bottle batch L6173 Best Before 30.12.25 poured into a tulip glass at 52° Fahrenheit 11.7% ABV per label. The beer pours opaque medium brown with chestnut highlights and tan colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is fairly intense with port wine and lesser so with oak barrel and dark sugar. The taste is semisweet Maris Otter malt up front with a wave of port wine, dark fruit, molasses and oak crashing in behind. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with just less that average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, excellent. I did not have high hopes buying unpasteurized European beer at room temperature that was several years old, but this has really held up.

Served in a tulip glass from the bottle.
Appearance: Cloudy brownish amber with medium bubbles on the body. Orange tinted white head rises to a notch below a finger's length. Settles quickly with little to no lacing.
Smell: Deep wine, hints of vermouth actually...it actually smells inctedible just wish it was a little more potent.
Taste: Complex brew, sweet wine and slightly woody taste. Has Berry and toffee feel with smooth lightly bitter malt and barley.
Mouth: Medium carbonation but the beer is definitely full bodied. Sticky and has an after taste which is hard to dislike.
Overall: Good brew, definitely a brew which can keep up with the upper echelon of barleywines. Great gift from a good friend...Always in a glass, Salud!
