Sour ale fermented in French oak foudres with a Belgian yeast. Aged one year in French oak foudres with a mixed culture. Finished on wild Alaskan blueberries. Naturally carbonated in the bottle.

375 mL bottle. Pours really deep purple. Pinkish ring of foam. Smells of blueberry, soft oak, and... wait for it... a box of crayons. Yup. Tastes fascinating. It's really intense with the blueberries. Never really sour, never really sweet, just blueberry. Oak and a strong earthy finish. Someone below me said "olive brine," which I never would have thought of, but it's spot on and he deserves palate kudos. Medium body. It's fascinating, intense, and tasty, but fundamentally weird and definitely not a top-tier fruited sour.

Pours a somewhat reddish purple with a half finger of fizzy head that quickly dissipates leaving no lacing. Wine-like aroma with a blueberry tail. Taste follows nose, with a nice balance of sweet to tartness.

My first beer from Alaska, a 64 oz growler from Half Time split with my boy for the night, let’s dive right into it

Pours a murky dark purple with a finger of of frothy pink head that quickly fades to a thin ring and leaves no lacing

This one smells pretty odd, with the blueberries feeling buried by some spice. I’m picking up on aromas of overripe blueberry, red wine vinegar, soft oak, coriander, and a touch of maple syrup

For as weird as it was in the nose, it was still pretty damn enjoyable. I’m not so sure I can say the same about the taste. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting sweetened blueberry, lemon juice, and doughy malt. The swallow brings notes of more odd and nondescript sweetness, red grape, tart blueberry, funky leather, blackberry, and light maple. Yeah, I kinda like the taste after deeper inspection

A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a silky beer. Finishes mostly dry with a lingering sweetness

This was one strange beer, no doubt about it. Still, I enjoyed it for what it is

Bottle at share, courtesy of Toby. Purple pour with instant violet head. Aroma and taste are bursting with berries, fruity, sweet and tart. Excellent.

Purple heads are neat.

Another reviewer described Band-Aid in the aroma. This is accurate as far as it goes, but it does not go far enough. I smelled Band-Aid on a festering wound on the foot of a diabetic. I actually had a physical reaction at times to this aroma, my stomach lurched a bit. I sniffed this one a lot to make sure it was actually as bad as I thought it was. Hold on one moment and I'll try it again... yep, still no good.

This doesn't taste nearly as bad as it smells. The tart blueberry flavor is quite pleasant. Unfortunately there is something putrid at the exhale.

I think I have to dump this.

This beer was quite amazing. It's The Experiment from Anchorage Brewing (I think you're all familiar by now), which is a sour ale with wild Alaskan blueberries. It was quite not what I was expecting when I poured it from the bottle. The cork was stained purple. The smell erupted as soon as I opened it. Fresh blueberries, which was so mesmerizing. It poured like I was about to drink a glass of dark red wine. The body was super light, which made it nice for drinking. The taste, was exquisite. Strong blueberry forward flavor, with a touch of sour taste, which is expected because of the tartness of the blueberries. It finishes nice in the mouth, just leaving behind a nice tart sweetness. I would definitely drink this again if it ever presents itself to me.

Batch 1 of the wild Alaskan blueberry version. 375ml. Incredibly dark pour with purple head, not too much life but enough for a small head. Nose is dank blueberry, latex and some rubber. Bordering on really nice blueberry skin but then in comes the bandaid. Taste is much lighter and more mellow, some blueberry but also more bandaid. Very drinkable even with the off flavors. Smooth and not very acidic or sour. Approachable for a beginner sour drinker.
