Bold oat stout fermented and aged in a Missouri Oak Foeder. Conditioned on piles of toasted coconut. Expect a touch of woodiness coming through the mocha body, along with a hint of vanilla. Coconut adds a tropical aroma and a long, almost creamy finish that will keep you coming back for sip after sip.

Black color. Nice, beige head. Chocolate, coconut, and oak in the aroma. And same as many others, I got a contaminated one. Down the drain, it went

Poured from a 16 ounce can into a snifter.
Look- Black, frothy dark brown head, opaque, below average head retention and lacing.
Smell- Cocoa, coconut, coffee, oak, medium strength of scent.
Taste- Fruity, oak, coconut, cocoa, sour, sweet, medium strength of flavor.
Feel- Between thin and medium body, sour, sweet, average carbonation, silky, mildly creamy, mildly mouth watering finish.
Overall- Look was black with a dark brown head that dissipated quickly and had virtually no lacing. Bouquet was a pleasant mix of cocoa, coconut, coffee and oak. The bouquet did not come close to matching the flavors. The taste had an unidentifiable fruitiness with an abundance of sour and sweet character. Feel was much thinner than expected with some silkiness and a bunch of sourness. Overall this beer felt like a cross between a stout and a sour. This brewery has a tremendous problem of not living up to the expectations set by their pricing.

Pitch black shimmer body, full brown head. Oak backed coconut and vanilla atop a dark chocolate, oat, brown sugar, earth, big coffee, and roasted malt in nose. Taste has the same set up, and while I love the roasty coffee oatmeal and chocolate stout, the super bright oak makes the coconut taste infected, driving the whole taste off the rails. Feel is bright and dark simultaneous, fighting against itself, percolation and malt is nice, oak is misguided.

poured from a 16oz can into a FFF DLD nonic pint glass. pours an obsidian black with a two finger dark brown foam that recedes quickly into nothing. a little colder i don’t smell or taste much but as this gets nearer to room temp i get a lot of baker’s chocolate and slight oily coconut. perhaps a bit of oak in the finish on the taste. it’s thick and chewy with a mouth-coating stickiness. this was interesting. kind of a tweener - certainly imperial by abv standards but by today’s (and anchorage’s own) standards this leans a little lighter. the coconut compliments the base stout but it’s certainly not the star and the oak foeders add just a tad bit of complexity but i probably could have been fooled into thinking this was stainless had i been none the wiser. still, wry enjoyable and as i mentioned much more to it at warmer temps.

16oz can from Tavour. Black pour, creamy beige head fades to flat. Aroma is sweet, dark chocolate, coffee, roast. Coconut appears in the taste as a mellow accent to sweet roasty chocolate flavors, culminating in a nice bitterness. Sticky finish, some mouth coating.

Dark color, active brown head. Smells of dark malt, oat, coconut, vanilla, and chocolate. Slight barrel presence. Taste is a subtle blend of malt, coconut, vanilla, and chocolate. Medium bodied, boozy, slight thickness. Pretty good.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours nearly pitch black, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin, fizzy, khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, fudge, coconut, light oak and coffee; rich. Flavor follows with dark toasted malt with light char, fudgy dark chocolate, coconut, light vanilla, oak and a hint of latte coffee. Medium bodied with moderate, silky creaminess. Just the aroma and the dark pour justifies the name of this stout but the creamy body and full flavors makes "heavy" fully descriptive. Fine oatmeal character to the malt and great chocolate flavor. It's been a while since a coconut stout was so reminiscent of a Mounds bar. Really well done, dark stout. Anchorage has kind of gone off the deep end with high price point, rare big stouts and barleywines lately, but this reasonable, great tasting stout shows why they are so well respected. If there weren't so many fresh hops to drink right now, I'd probably be drinking this all week. Yum.

I think some batches of this may have been infected. Both of the cans that I received from Tavour had an overly thick, sour, and soy sauce-like quality that I can only assume was unintended.
