yet another super thick and ultra modern hazy ipa from these guys that uses a weird new fangled hop product, something called subzero hop kief in this one, cool to try, but im not sure it yields a beer of great interest here, and i once again find this level of a sexy hop just slightly unappealing, i think a lot of the southern hemisphere ones are like this, but like, too much galaxy or motueka whatever actually is too much, and it is here too, not that this is vegetal or bitey, but its so permanent on the tongue, such a sort of palate wrecking intensity, even if its not sloppy, that it makes the beer a little hard to drink much of, over the top at temperature, and just not as refined seeming as it could be, in other words not an optimal way to feature either the hop or the new hop product, much as i still think this is neat. yellow colored from the pint can and very very hazy and dense looking under its frothy inch of white head. the motueka is evident in the nose to me, and its more than double dry hopped, like the kief cranks the pungency, but gone are a lot of its nuances into the void of it seeming almost generically hoppy. it also smells quite sweet to me, pineapple and peach candy, and thats true in the flavor too. i guess its slightly green, but its the way it sits and feel on my tongue thats a little more of a turn off, and i find myself wishing for a clear 5% abv pale ale with these ingredients, like tone the whole thing way down and it would be both more delicious and more informative, at least in my opinion, which probably doesnt sound all that humble, but it is. definite melon, white wine grape, stone fruit, and cut flowers here, weedy hashy stickiness and dankness, sweet orange, lots of starchy body, and some new school seeming yeast cranking the juice factor. there is lots to like here, i dont mean to sound too negative, and the can art is fire as always from these guys, but they could have done more to make this unique and special with these hops and this new product. ill keep buying these though, there is still something quite original to be gleaned from this, monstrous as it sort of is...
