Rich and bodacious. Thick and slightly obnoxious. Maybe a bit too much on the barrel aging. Notes of maple and vanilla on the scent with the barrel, dark fruit joins on the taste. Strong feel, thick, boozy. These guys better bring the value for the price, this wasn’t bad overall

poured from a gold-waxed 375mL bottle into a perennial snifter. pours dark brown with a finger of mocha brown foam. heavy cinnamon on the nose as well as some whiskey and oak. closer to room temp i also get some dark fruits as well, mostly cherries witch mesh well with the cinnamon i’m getting (i guess from the amburana barrels). taste leans heavily on the hours component of the blend and the barrels in particular. cinnamon, cherries, raisins, whiskey, oak, light chocolate and vanilla complex yet i’m distracted by the amburana barrels. it’s not bad tasting by any means but it’s definitely different. thick, full mouthfeel. somewhat mixed feelings although definitely ranging more towards liking this but the cinnamon aspect of the amburana barrels has me excited for the version with coconut. feel like that should work well together.

Another 12 oz. bottle from Anchorage that’s worth its weight in tribidium, complete with symbolic gold wax atop the crown. Stubborn, rubbery wax.
Sehr dark, with just enough reddish ruby around the edges to hint at the barleywine in the blend. Stout wins the appearance contest. The nose is barrel with a twitch of barleyesque notes. BW wins.
Save Me #1 goes heavy into the barleywine, in both taste & mouthfeel & lack of heavy-handed duty. And I can verify the ABV, yup, yup, yup. The sting of the booze coupled with the light, sharp fruitiness is strongly reminiscent of Central Waters BA Barleywine (that’s a strong compliment). Barrels. But there’s a lack of finish, & while I search for better words, the beer just…ends. There’s a backhand of ABV & bourbon then, palate silence. Certainly big.
Unfortunately a typical collab that ends of watering down the immense strengths of both breweries. Good beer – but if you’re charging Anchorage prices, you can’t afford to miss like this.
