At brewery on cask. 4.8% 41 IBU. Great looking beer. Typical roasted malt aromas and flavors. Cask provided smooth body. Nice bitterness. Recommended.

Overall, much more enjoyable than Guinness or Murphy's, as this stout is not as dry as its compatriots. The flavor and aroma, while subtle, are much maltier than other dry stouts.

Annual St. Patrick day relaese from LBC.

ABV: 4.4%
IBU: 28

Poured from tap at the brewpub into commemerative tumbler pint glass.

Pitch black with a half-inch medium cream colored head.

Aromas of roasted barley amd malt up front that give way to a pleasing mild alcohol finish. Also detect another roasty aroma that is hard to identify - burnt popcorn perhaps?

Tastes exactly as it smells, with a nice roasted barley and malt balance up front that recedes to a dry alcohol finish that is just right. Not overpowering but true to the style. No hops detected at any point.

The mouthfeel is definantly on the light side - not necessarily a bad thing, no stickiness at all after consuming which I think lends to the stouts appeal. Some may perfer more body though.

Overall, this is a delicious dry Irish stout that I could easily drink more than one of in a sitting and a nice entry in the style...wish they would brew it up more often.

Presentation: Released each St. Patrick's Day to fight against green beer. Served in a commemorative pint glass. I wish they sold the Imperial pint glasses that their beers aret ypically served in, but it comes in a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Arrives with about 1/2 inch of dark tan, creamy head. This settles leaving some lacing and a ring around the glass. The beer itself is a dark brown/red, almost black.

Smell: Smells of sweet malt with some roasted barley bitterness. Overriding all this is the slightly sour smell from cask conditioning.

Taste: Sweet up front, with a molasses like malt taste. Slightly bitter finish from roasted barley and some hops. Slight sour taste form cask, althoughthis was supposedly just tapped today.

Mouthfeel: Very low carbonation, even lower than typical of LBC. Maybe a little too low. Body is a little thin.

Drinkability: Always a fan of LBC offerings, though this one was a little below their average. Served a little too warm and lacking somewhat in carbonation. Nevertheless, a generally tasty brew.

I believe this beer is offered every St. Patty's day. It is served in it's own custom LBC collectable pint glass. It pours a beautiful black with a 2 finger brown head. Smell is of roasted malts but an intriguing hop aroma cuts through the mix. The taste is outstanding, it's as if someone took a bottle of Guinness Extra Stout, added some c hops and then cask conditioned it making a creamy, more spicy verision of the beloved Irish classic. I love what the hops bring to this dry stout style. It is certainly nothing like I've ever had (with the exception of Storm King Stout maybe). Mouthfeel is creamy and wonderful. The drinkability suffers as it's hard to drink more than 2 pints of this black gold without a break for some different flavors.
