Poured into a large weizen glass from the tap at the Hengshan Rd. location.

A: The beer is a solid opaque brown with little light coming in at the edges. Head is fantastic looking - tan and thick, sticking around for several minutes leaving a solid layer on the glass.

S: Strong and matly. A quick hit of alcohol immediately devoured by roasted malt, anise, and bread. Bittersweet baker's chocolate in there. the only fault is that there isn't enough. Faint at times, but great.

T: Baker's chocolate is first impression, followed by a bit more roasted malt and cocoa. Given the smell, the beer is not as complex as it first seems. Light bitterness of coffee in there. Pretty good taste.

F: Chewy and thick but leaves some dryness in the mouth.

Overall, a good stout. Super drinkable and has good character. Aroma makes it, but the taste is good also.

On draft as part of a sampler tray.

Appearance: cloudy, roasted caramel color. Attractive head and lacing.

Smell: toasted coffee aroma.

Taste: thin, watery flavor with lingering bitterness, somewhat unusual for the style.

Mouth: crisp, carbonated feel, again unusual for the style.

Overall somewhat disappointing version of an Irish Stout - not the smooth, toasty outcome I wanted.

Also served in hefe glass.
1 finger fluffy slightly darker colored head fades at a need to quicker pace, decent lacing, dark mahogany brown color touch of light.
Nose roasted malts out front, roasty char slight acrid, roasted coffee, light fruity dark fig like, burnt caramel, fig, lactose sugar milky.
Taste brings more roast, roasted malts, roasted coffee beans, burnt caramel, char, etc, but not acrid. Very tannic, burnt coffee very much burnt coffee, more lactose sugar, creamy, hint burnt cocoa in the background, stout bitterness. Finish is semi sweet, pretty sticky, lingering stout roasty burnt coffee.
Mouth is med bod, mild creamy lactose and sticky sweet, light carb too.
