Not actually "retired" so much as slowly evolving through once-yearly small batches. This year comes in at 7.5% abv, 26 ibu, and was quite tasty and warming on a 17-degree day. Deep amber in color, medium body with a sticky molasses finish. Served in an English pint glass, it showed a thin head quick-disappearing lacing. Quite enjoyable, and fun to think it's something like what they had in colonial times.

From notes, served in an imperial pint. Poured a deep brown color with strong tea highlites at the edges. A finger of head sat nicely atop the brew. Nose was chunky caramel and buttery diacetyl that formed a good toffee base wtih a lighter toasted maltyness underneath it. Very good balance in the aroma. Flavor was good, with a very full molasses and spice that reminded me of gingerbread. A modest caramel and diacetyl butternyess were under these more dominant spucey characteristics, resulting in a rather pleasant drink. The feel was thick with a light carbonation, working well with the flavors and the overall beer. This one did not spend a long time in my glass. It was very bold flavored, but not offensive. I hope they make it again.
