Black Trout Stout

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass at the brewery/brewpub. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a thin white to off white foamy head that quickly dissipated. Nice appropriate lacing. The aroma has all of the normal qualities of an American Stout - roasty check, slight coffee check, subtle chocolate check, and then some black licorice -nice, cool. The flavor takes it all in nicely. Lends a hand to a nice balance from sweet to bitter and roasty, just seems to wrap it all up nicely and then leads into the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. Good carbonation. Fair sessionability. Tilting smooth effects on my tongue. Overall, really nice American styled stout that I would have again.
