Poured into a Gavroche tulip. Pours a quite dark, hazy red-brown amber with a hafl finger light tan head with good retention and lacing. Classic quad aroma of caramel malt, dark stone fruit; estery. Flavor starts with fresh dark and light stone fruit, somewhat tart, sweet nakt, finishing with more fruit tartness, mildly vinous and hint of whisky barrel before settling on vinous tartness. Medium bodied. Quite a roller coaster of flavor in this one. The main body is classic quadrupel flavors, and the initial tartness was a pleasant surprise, melding with the other rich fruit flavors. The barrel aging seemed more wine barrel than whisky barrel making the finish a little unbalanced. I'm glad there was at least a taste of whisky, but I would have really gone crazy on this one if it had a more intense whisky component. A nice quad with an odd finish, but still enjoyable. ABV well covered, but still quite warming.
