Dark orange amber brew in the snifter. This is one of the most intensely rye flavored beers I've had, and also one of the best. The rye taste is on display-- spicy and grainy with it's own kind of bitterness. Hops are discreet and it's hard to tell where the rye malt leaves off and the resiny hops begin.
Just a touch of sweetness. There's an interesting applejack taste, an odd fruitiness that goes well with the dark, tangy grain. Warm, roasted aromatics. It's a tongue tingler but very nice to sip and sip. From the 32 oz growler filled at the brewery restaurant on the edge of Poulsbo.
