Pours a slightly hazy burnt sienna with a rapidly dissapating collar of foam. Aroma is loaded with citrus (grapefruit & tangerine) with a malty backdrop.
Entry is zesty carbonation (in a smooth kinda way) and immediately attackd the sides of the tongue with a-acids. Midtaste is a tongue-numbing alpha attack which completely overrides what was probably a very nice malt bill. The grains finally break free of the hop shackles in the finish and manage a brief appearance before succumbing to the hops as they dance into the twilight.
This was brewed toward the end of 2005 and (unlike most barleywines) was probably better fresh as some hop degridation is apparent.

Had this on tap at the Irvine Back Street but the manager said it was made in Vista, but wasnt sure. He also thought it was 7% abv.
This brew is absolutely tasty! More of a DIPA than a barely wine if you ask me.
A - A faint haze to a deep ice-t colored brew with a finger of an oatmeal colored head. Left a nice lacing.
S - some solid citrus and floral scents and more hops. Didnt smell much malt, but that's okay.
T - Citrus, grapefruit and floral notes that give a solid punch of hops yet maintains enough malt to allow the hops to really come through in a crisp way. Great hop profile.
M&Dr - medium bodied with good carbonation that really cleans the palate. A crisp brew that is more of a DIPA. You will come back for more of this. I'm getting a growler tomorrow to drink as i watch the Rose Bowl.
